Storm Robertson is a composer with compositions uploaded to MusicHub. Read below to find out more about her.
Storm grew up in Perthshire and began playing the trumpet aged 12. She has just left the Music School of Douglas Academy where she has studied Classical Trumpet and hopes to go on to study at a Conservatoire. Storm plays for a wide range of ensembles including the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland, the National Youth Wind Ensemble of Scotland, the Gordon’s Duncan Experience, Bathgate Brass Band and Fife Ladies Band. She has also been involved with organisations such as the RSNO and Children’s Classic Concerts.
Despite not playing a traditional instrument, Storm joined the Gordon’s Duncan Experience aged 13, where she fell in love with the genre and has added trumpet parts to every tune the band has played! Using the trumpet’s ability to produce both a mellow, warm sound and a harsher, jazzier sound, she is able to combine the brass sounds with the more traditional instruments to create a unique blend of sound.
Storm began writing tunes only a year or so ago and tends to compose using the piano first before writing the melody out. Her tunes are all based on places, events or people and she writes very freely, meaning that lots of editing is required!
Storm hopes to introduce the trumpet within the trad scene on a wider scale and to venture more into composition in the near future.
