A recent trip to the Windward Islands revealed the term "Back Row Johnny". It was the name given to the slaves who were eventually allowed into the church to sit at the back while their very "decent and Christian " masters sat in the front. This wistful jig reflects the hypocrisy of that period in history overseas.
