I play accordion for a ceilidh/old time dance class/club at St Andrews in the Square in Glasgow. Tricia Matthews, the dance teacher devised the dance “St Andrews in the Square” – the dance is a 64 bar jig so I wrote this tune for her and for the dance. Rather than compose a 32 bar jig and have to play it twice, or a traditional 4 part pipe style jig, I came up with this which is just 4 x 16 bar parts which fit the dance perfectly. The tune also has the ideal feel for a two-step..
