This is a three-two reel called 'The Raft Race' – the last track from my solo album 'The River' (2015) – it's called 'Spey Cast [Part B] on the album.
3/2 (sometimes referred to as a 6/4 reel). Other tunes in this time signature include Rory Campbell's 'Nusa' (AKA 'Ceridwen & Martin's Nusa Lembongan Wedding'), Allan MacDonald's 'Na Goisidich' (although theres a few extra beats in there as well), and the popular trad tune 'An Drochaid Chiiùiteach' (AKA The Famous/Crooked/Twisted bridge)!
What's the tune about? The excitement on the day of the annual Grantown-on-Spey Raft Race was immense. Each raft represented a local business, charity or family. The homemade crafts inevitably arrived in various pieces over the finishing line at the Old Spey Bridge as the crews, often in tears of laughter, failed spectacularly to negotiate a smooth line through the standing waves, hidden boulders and stoppers of the Big Stream rapids. Tremendous craic!
